Director: Mark Clauburg

Mark began his career as an educator, teaching high school and college video production in the early 2000s. After earning a terminal degree in instructional technology, he transitioned to leadership positions in higher education. He is a principal member of Grey Machine Films and has directed several award-winning films, including The Last Visit and My Dad and Bob Todd.

Director Statement

Preparation is a film based on a short horror story published in the early 2000s. The author approached me two years ago about the possibility of collaborating on a project in the future. I asked him to send me his favorite of all the short stories from his catalog and was immediately blown away by the insane twist at the end of Preparation. After writing several films with extended dialogue scenes, we challenged ourselves to tell a story more visually and with a bombastic film score. My DP Dustin Ward and composer Peter Lisowsky were more than up for the challenge. I also brought on board special effects/makeup artist Rose Ripley, who created an incredibly realistic prosthetic arm and handled blood duties. As our team's first foray into the horror genre, we are pleased with the result.
