Director Biography - Simeon Gregory

Director/Writer Simeon Gregory was born in Yakima, WA during the same year Mount St. Helens blew.

First-time filmmaker out of Washington State. Fan of horror since the ’80s.

Some people see horror as a stepping stone for other genres, whereas Simeon regards it as a place he wants to remain while also honing his craft.

Director Statement

Death in a Box is my love note to horror in under 12 minutes. It skims the surface of morality with life and death. Death makes us question life and all its inner workings when presented to us. Would you die for your friend? It's easy to say yes until you're face-to-face with it.

One thing I didn't get to fully explore in the short runtime was how the box reveals to each person when and how they're going to die. Samara has already encountered the box, and we're left to guess what happened before she brought her friend Ava. I touch on a few different areas that leave the viewer wondering.

Filmed in Yakima, WA at two locations. The indoor shots were in my apartment and the outdoor was near a local winery.

No CGI was used in the making of this film. A third of the budget was used for practical effects. Everything was self-funded.

It takes passion and commitment to put together something like this without a big team of people. I had to wear a lot of hats to get this thing completed. I even shot a pick-up scene and the title sequence was shot after filming was completed without my DP.
