Influenced and mentored by the creators of Night of the Living Dead 1968, Drew Pizzo went on to shoot several feature films that vary from Christian Dramas to Hardcore Exploitation.

Drew grew up in a rural farm community where he was able to write, shoot and edit his own home videos and skits. He grew up watching horror movies and at an early was determined to write and direct.

With almost a decade of shooting experience he partnered up with Sick & Twisted FX to form Sick & Twisted Cinema and produced several shorts and one feature called Back Road.

Director Statement

My name is Drew Pizzo and I am the writer, director, director of photography, editor and producer on the film Back Road. As you can see I wore many hats but it was what I needed to do to make my movie. We shot the film with roughly $20,000 with a production schedule of around 30 days.

My goal with the film was to reestablish the horror genre. Make a modern film that feels like something you’d watch in the 70s or 80s when horror was in its prime. I love gory films and I love cabin in the woods movies so I made my own. It’s fun, it’s disgusting and it’s absolutely what I wanted to see on screen. It’s not a film that everyone will love but others will look at it as a nice change up from the mainstream horror genre.

I’m disappointed in mainstream horror, I feel that most of the diehard horror fans are fed up with censorship and unwanted hands in the cookie jar. I’m a fan and I happen to be a filmmaker so I wanted to give back with an American Grindhouse Style Film.
